Local Artist Wins First Place Award in Union County Exhibit
On Wednesday evening, June 10, Westfield resident Millicent K. Brody received first place honors for her photograph entitled 'Medium Rare'. The event in the 2009 Union County Senior Art exhibit held at the Elizabethtown Gas Co. Liberty Hall Center, in Union. New Jersey. The exhibit will be on display through July 19, 2009.
A freelance writer and photographer, Mrs. Brody mantra has always been, 'I want to write what you read'. Taking a cue from her passion, folks can find her stories in many of our Tri-State's magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times. With a giant passion for food, her columns appears in New Jersey Life Magazine, Edible Jersey Magazine, The Courier-News, Home News Tribune and Asbury Park Press. From the presentation at the Elizabethtown Gas Company, all first place artists will have their work exhibited in the Freeholder's Gallery at the Union County Administration Building in Elizabeth.
"Our senior citizens art exhibit has been in progress for more than ten years," says Senior Arts Coordinator Teya David. "When artists win first place at the county level, they have the opportunity to represent the county at the state level."
"It is our hope that New Jersey residents will take the time to seek out our professional artists," said Alexander Mirabella Chairman of the U. C. Board of Chosen Freeholders. Artist's work is once again reviewed by another set of professional judges at the State level. State judging will take place at the Meadow Lakes Community in East Windsor in October. "The Cultural and Heritage Group is pleased to host this annual event," said Local Arts Coordinator Paula Long. "We always look forward to viewing the talent within our community."
