Sponsored by the Downtown Westfield Corporation (DWC), the festival takes place every Tuesday evening during July and August, from 7pm to 9pm. Raindates are the following evening, Wednesday, each week.
Five jazz performances each night can be heard outside in downtown Westfield at various locations - on Central Avenue in front of Banana Republic, the lawn in front of the North Avenue Train Station, the plaza at the corner of East Broad and North Avenue, Elm Street in front of the Baptist Church, and in Foundation Park across the street from Gallery U Boutique at 439 South Ave. W. (near the corner of South Ave W. and Westfield Ave.). The Westfield Ballroom (formerly the Fred Astaire Dance Studio) will be showcasing some of their students and professional dance moves during the July 11 and August 29 Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival.
Quimby Street will be closed for special opening and closing celebrations of the Jazz Festival on July 4 and August 29. The North Avenue Jazz performers will be relocated to Quimby Street on both of those evenings.
“Sweet Sounds Downtown is extremely popular for all ages. From contemporary or traditional jazz to blues to big band, there are live performances to please everyone.” said Sherry Cronin, DWC Executive Director. “The event is great for businesses downtown on Tuesday night.” According to Beth Brenner, Asst. Executive Director, “We have a mix of great bands which played in past festivals as well as new bands this year. Sweet Sounds has become so popular that we unfortuantely have to turn away many talented groups.”
While enjoying the musical performances of “Sweet Sounds Downtown”, enjoy dining at one of Westfield’s fine restaurants or shop and stroll through downtown.
Celebrate National Night Out with the Town of Westfield on Tuesday, August 1 at the North Avenue Train Station! Enjoy listening to jazz and participate in the Town of Westfield Police, Fire and DPW planned activities.
