Summer Arts Workshop Offers Jam-A-Rama Camp

Summer Arts Workshop Offers Jam-A-Rama Camp

Musicians in grades 6 through 12 have a great opportunity awaiting them this summer. If they have always wanted to be a member of a band, the New Jersey Workshop Jam-A-Rama will fulfill that desire.

The Summer Arts Workshop brochure explains it well. ”If you’re a teen who’s into playing rock, pop and/or jazz and want to improve as well, this camp is for you.”

Students, ages 11-18, must have a minimum of I year experience on their instrument and must be comfortable doing improvisations. The instruments that will be used include Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum set, Vocals, Strings, Bass, Saxophone and Piano.

The Jam-A-Rama will be conducted by Glen Brown, who is on the music staff and the administrative staff of the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts. A graduate of Rutgers College, he has performed professionally for 10 years and has been involved in many recording projects. He is the director of the NJWA Jazz Band and director of the Rock Performance Workshop.

The program will also include Adam Garnys, a graduate of Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers. Garnys plays various instruments and is a teacher at the NJWA Music Studio.  He also works as an instrumental music teacher and band director in various area schools.

To enroll in the Jam-A-Rama, which will be held from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, from July 9-27, at the NJWA Music Studio, 150-152 East Broad Street, Westfield, visit the studio, call 908-518-1551 or log on to www.njworkshopforthearts.com.

The Westfield Foundation grants provide non-profit and civic organizations with financial assistance to provide summer employment to an area student.  The DWC has been fortunate to have this assistance available for many years.  Particularly during the busy summer months, the intern position is critical to downtown promotional activities such as the Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz festivals, Second Sundays, Customer Appreciation Days, and the Downtown Westfield 5K & Pizza Extravaganza. Chris has been assisting the DWC in prior summers on a periodic part-time basis during jazz nights and the Pizza Run as well as taking care of the flower baskets on Central Avenue and the storefronts placed by the DWC.
