Rock Performance Workshop Registers for Spring Session

Rock Performance Workshop Registers for Spring Session

A fantastic opportunity awaits area teens who want to rock out with their peers, whether on a Saturday night, entertaining audiences at a local venue or performing to raise money for charity.  All these fortunate experiences can be attained by becoming a member of  the NJWA Rock Performance Workshop.

Membership is now being accepted for the current group, which will meet on Saturday evenings, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts Music Studio, at 150-152 East Broad Street in Westfield.  Depending upon enrollment, additional groups may be scheduled for other time periods.

Requirements for joining the RPW include multiple years of  experience on drums, bass, guitar, piano, vocals or other rock instruments.  There will also be an Intro to Rock Performance class for those who have little or no experience or who may be younger than high school age.

The RPW is directed by guitarist Glen Brown and percussionist John Bryan.  Brown has taught and performed professionally and has been involved in various recording projects. His  experience in composition and performance spans many genres, but  he finds a focus in modern and pop music.

Bryan is an accomplished percussionist in the music field and is well known in the New York, New Jersey and West Coast club scene. A member of the Whirling Dervishes, Bryan has opened for legendary rock  performers such as  Patti Smith, the Fixx, Billy Squire, the Goo Goo Dolls, Jewel, and  the Romantics.

The various RPW bands have performed  at area venues such as the Crossroads in Garwood, Jay’s Cycle Center in Westfield, where they did a benefit performance for Furniture Assist, the Westfield Spring Fling and Festifall and at the Union Station at Kean University.  They also presented a concert at the First Baptist Church in Westfield to raise funds to support youth mission projects. Among some of the names these bands  have been known by are Fang Thang, Wrong Direction, Just the Thang, Hurricane  Zane, Knuckle Sandwich, ScamWow, Negative Reinforcement, Spyked and Sorry in Advance.
