Join the New Jersey Festival Orchestra for an Exciting New Season 2017-2018

The New Jersey Festival Orchestra has unveiled plans for its 35th anniversary season. Audiences can expect a series of dynamic musical celebrations to rival anything in New York City. The 2017-18 concert series entitled “Voices of Distinction” promises five spectacular programs centered around words, stories, and music.

The season celebration begins dramatically in October with Serenades to Music, sparkling works by Vaughan William and Mozart and featuring internationally acclaimed virtuoso Stefan Milenkovich performing Paganini's B minor violin concerto, one of the most dazzling scores ever created for the instrument.

Innovative Music Class for Young Musicians Offered at the NJWA

The New Jersey Workshop for the Arts Music Studio is presently offering a new and innovative program for very young musicians.

Intended for toddlers, preschoolers, and children to age 9, Music FunTime students will use musical crafts, worksheets, games and instruments in an exciting way to explore the arts. The  program is based on Johns Hopkins Research that very young children can learn to read music notation and play musical instruments, while fostering their ability to grasp math and science.

Majestic Winds to Perform a Fall Concert at Redeemer Lutheran Church

Majestic Winds, the professional wind band of the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts, will present a fall concert at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 229 Cowperthwaite Place, Westfield, NJ on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.  The ensemble will be directed by Howard Toplansky, an NJWA staff instrumental instructor. “Our musical offerings are geared to please a variety of musical tastes and range from Renaissance to Ragtime favorites,” stated Toplansky.

String Players Invited to Interview for NJWA Saturday Orchestras

The New Jersey Workshop for the Arts Music Studio is currently holding interviews for all age levels for its various Saturday Orchestras. According to Dr. Ted Schlosberg, NJWA Founder and Executive Director, “The Music Studio is pleased to offer musical experiences for all ability levels. These groups are designed for musicians who enjoy playing a wide variety of music.”


There is a Cadet Orchestra, which will meet at 1:30 pm, for beginning string students who are just starting music lessons. A String Orchestra will meet at 3:30 pm, for musicians with one or two years’ experience who can play C,G and D scales and a Chamber Orchestra will meet at 2:30 pm for intermediate and advanced musicians who can play C,G, D, A, F, Bb and Eb scales.

The orchestras will be held on Saturday afternoons at the NJWA Music Studio, 150-152 East Broad Street in Westfield. Musicians may bring their own instruments or arrange for rental from the NJWA Music Store.

In addition to these orchestras and private and group lessons, the Music Studio is home to a wide variety of music programs. Among those are the NJWA Summer Symphony, the Rock Performance Workshop, Wednesday Morning Strings, the Majestic Winds, the Alphorn Ensemble, and the Music Connection, which now includes a Music Therapy program.

Mostly Music Announces it's 2016-2017 Season at Temple Emanu-el in Westfield, NJ

Mostly Music, the Chamber Music series under the artistic direction of the violist, Paul Neubauer announces its’ 2016-2017 season.  Now based in Westfield at Temple Emanu-el, 756 East Broad Street the 5 concerts  will be held on Sundays at 3:30 p.m.

The  first concert on Sunday, November 20, 2016 is a program of Hungarian Rhapsodies by Shubert, Ravel, and Hayden featuring Arnaud Sussmann, violin, Paul Neubauer, viola, Sophie Shao, cello and Shai Wosner, piano.

Music and About Music Abound at the Westfield Memorial Library

Music and programs about music continue to abound at the Westfield Memorial Library throughout the summer. On Wednesday, July 6, at 7:00 p.m., there will be program on the music of the 50’s and 60’s, and on Saturday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. the Lincoln Center Local Free Screening Series continues.

Marc Black will help audience members relive the colorful, musical eras of the 50s and 60s through his humorous and engaging program. He will use a wide range of popular songs including surprising favorites like, “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,” great rock tunes like “Blue Suede Shoes” and moving folk songs like Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind.”
