Chez Catherine: A New Touch on a French Classic

Westfield NJ -- A new wine cellar and tasting room for private parties, a summer menu, a renovated dining room, new owners and a new chef….. This is what you can expect at Chez Catherine in Westfield NJ, a restaurant known as one of New Jersey’s top destinations since 1979 for classic French cuisine.

Former maître d'hôtel, now restaurateur Stephan Bocket and his business partner Michael Cowan recently purchased this renowned restaurant and have invigorated the Westfield staple in many ways, including a fresh staff headed by Executive Chef Christine Migton.

The grand re‐opening showcases a fresh and elegant European feel to its dining room with a plaster stone effect on the walls, a beautiful coffered ceiling with elegant lighting, all creating a warm comfortable ambiance.

The new menu offers many classic dishes including Dover Sole prepared tableside and other enticing new dishes prepared by Executive Chef Migton. The wild, whole Dover Sole is sautéed in brown butter with fresh lemon juice and is delicious and simple. For dessert, the soufflés are superb and come in a variety of seasonal flavors including hazelnut, mango, lemon and Grand Marnier. Seasonal menus are always changing. Don’t miss their mid-week lunch special (Tuesday – Friday) featuring two-courses for $25.

The wine cellar and tasting room downstairs can accommodate private parties up to 20 people with prix fixe menus. A fresco painted wall and wine bottle storage displays make for an intimate and sophisticated event space.

Chez Catherine has its own special monthly events as well, such as wine dinners and a Bastille Day celebration in July. Subscribe to their mailing list to be notified of upcoming events.

Owner Stephan Bocket brings 32 years of hospitality experience into this new venture. Stephan has worked alongside many renowned chefs and restaurateurs including Chef Alain Ducasse in both Paris and New York. It is with these experiences that Stephan brings a heightened level of consistency to the operations of the Chez Catherine creating an extraordinary experience with impeccable service.

Executive Chef Christine Migton started her career at Chez Catherine in 2003 as a Chef Tourant and has honed her culinary skillset at some of New Jersey’s best restaurants before her recent return to Chez Catherine’s kitchen as Sous Chef. Now elevated to Executive Chef, Christine brings traditional classic French cuisine to a new generation of sophisticated diners.
