Due to significant staffing shortages driven by COVID in both the Westfield Police Department and crossing guard personnel, the Town must temporarily reduce the number of crossing guard posts, beginning the week of January 3, in order to preserve sufficient police staffing levels for ongoing public safety needs and any unanticipated emergencies.
Current available resources will be focused on the posts with the highest pedestrian volume, which are those closest to the schools. As a result, the following posts will be unstaffed this week:
- Elm Street/Walnut Street
- E Dudley Avenue/Lawrence Avenue
- Kimball Avenue/Mountain Avenue
- Boulevard/Clifton Street
- Boulevard/Park Street
- Boulevard/W Grove Street
- Central Avenue/Cambridge Road (HAWK Light)
- Clifton Street/Central Avenue/Sycamore Street
- Scotch Plains Avenue/First Street
We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause, as we work to minimize the workforce disruptions resulting from COVID over the coming weeks.
