October 19, 2017, Westfield NJ -- The candy business has been in George Brummer’s family since 1904, for over 100 years. George’s grandfather first established his business in Jersey City. His two sons eventually took over the business, then his grandsons, George and Robert. When the original store closed in 1988, Robert moved to Ohio and George bought the old Martha Lorton Candies in Westfield. He changed its name to Brummer’s, where he continued his family’s candy business to this day.
George has been working in his current location at 125 E. Broad Street in Westfield since 1988. That’s nearly 30 years!
Brummer’s is an old fashioned candy shop in every sense of the word. The place looks like it did originally, down to the Victorian wallpaper and vintage candy molds. They manufacture all the chocolates and fudge on premises in the back using old family recipes, and they sell them by the pound. They also carry retro candies such as Mary Janes, buttons, jaw breakers, Pez and more, all in grab-and-go pre-packaged bags from $2.95. Chocolate pops and bars start at $1.99. Kids are welcome, although they request that backpacks and skateboards remain outside due to the narrow aisles and packed shelves.
Brummer’s has a strong business in party favors for weddings, birthday parties, and other special occasions. They also do corporate gifts and can customize logos by embossing on the chocolate or on specially printed boxes.
Let’s show George some Westfield love! Stop in and buy some homemade chocolates. They have some of the best dark chocolate covered sea salt caramels anywhere. Or consider ordering your holiday corporate gifts or next party favors from Brummer’s.
Brummer's Chocolates has also been selected as one of the best Candy Shops in New Jersey by Best of AmericanTowns, a property of AmericanTowns Media! Read more:
