While a deal to end the government shutdown appears to be far off, many Westfield businesses are willing to offer furloughed federal workers a little relief, ranging from free food and coffee to free fitness and financial planning services.
Around 800,000 federal employees have been furloughed or working without pay since December 21 and won't receive their next paychecks until the government reopens. January 11 was the first payday most furloughed employees missed.
Businesses across the country are offering free services -- meals, movies, and classes, among other things -- to all those impacted by what is now the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
Locally, many Westfield businesses are generously doing something to help those affected. Here are details on how our local restaurants, stores and services providers are pitching in. (Check back frequently as this list will continually update.)
Note: Furloughed workers should simply show their federal ID to take advantage of these specials.
