The 14th Annual Downtown Westfield 5K & Pizza Extravaganza was held on July 22, 2015 at 7 pm. Organized by Downtown Westfield Corporation, the event was sponsored by many generous community partners and attracted over 2,400 runners and over 6,000 spectators.
For the sixth year in a row, Trinitas Regional Medical Center was the Platinum Sponsor of the event. As the Platinum Sponsor, Trinitas Regional Medical Center and their Edge magazine staff was on hand to share information about their award-winning hospital and led the runners at the beginning of the race.
Stop & Shop of Westfield was a Gold Sponsor for 2015 and provided sponsorship and many product donations needed for the race. Members of the store were on hand to provide goodies, such as fresh fruit and cookies from their bakery, for the runners as well as information about their anticipated store expansion in Downtown Westfield. Stop & Shop has been an active participant in many community events and activities including silver sponsorship of the Pizza Run for many years.
Present at the event were also returning Silver Sponsors Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Overlook Medical Center, UBS, and City Sports. According to Sherry Cronin, Executive Director of Downtown Westfield Corporation “This event is incredibly popular. We are very pleased that our sponsors continue to support the race and that the race attracts new sponsors each year. If not for the runners and sponsors, we would not be able to fund the costs of the event. Any remaining funds are being reserved for future downtown streetscape improvements.”
The race was held on the USATF certified course for the following route: On E. Broad Street Left onto N. Euclid Avenue, Left onto Park Drive through Mindowaskin Park, Cross Mountain Avenue, Right onto Lawrence Avenue, Left onto Sylvania Place, Right onto Elm Street, Left onto Newton Place, Right onto Prospect Street, Left onto Brightwood Avenue, Left onto Embree Crescent, Left onto Eaglecroft Road, Right onto Clark Street, left onto W. Dudley Avenue, Right onto Elm Street, and Finish just past E. Broad Street. Pizza and dessert were provided to all registered runners. Entertainment was provided by the ever-popular Michael Craig Band & FOG (Five Old Guys) with an awards ceremony immediately following the race.
