Intergenerational musicians have a fantastic opportunity to share their talents with other musicians and with audience members when they join the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts Summer Symphony.
Director Janet Lyman has tremendous confidence in this group and enthusiastically commented that “We have a great new crop of Symphony members. We will be playing a Beethoven and Bizet concert. Some of the Wednesday Morning Strings members will be joining us this season. This is going to be the best Summer Symphony ever!”
The orchestra, which is registering performers for the 19th. season, is intended for those who play strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. String players should be able to play 5 scales in 2 octaves. Woodwind and brass players should be prepared to play in the keys of C, G, D, F and Bb. Percussionists who play snare drum, bass drum, timpani and trap are also needed. Tuition for the summer orchestra is $175. All musicians are asked to bring a music stand to rehearsal.
Rehearsals for the orchestra will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, 559 Raritan Road in Clark, from 7:15 pm until 9:00 pm, primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays, except as noted. The final concert will be performed on Thursday, July 26.
The NJWA Summer Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Ms. Janet Lyman, an instructor at the NJWA Music Studio and the director of the NJWA Wednesday Morning Strings. Ms. Lyman, who holds both a B.M. in Violin and an M.M.Ed. in Music from the Manhattan School of Music, is a retired teacher from the Tenafly Board of Education.
