Top Best Selling Books of 2018 at the Town Book Store

These were the top best selling adult books of 2018 at The Town Book Store in Westfield, NJ. (270 E. Broad St., 908.233.3535)

#1 Becoming

By Michelle Obama
Warm, wise, and revelatory, this book is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations — and whose story inspires us to do the same.

#2 Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
By Gail Honeyman
Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, this book is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes...the only way to survive is to open your heart.

Grand Openings in December

Grand Openings in December

Warby Parker has opened at 126 Central Ave. (in a portion of the space formerly occupied by Coldwater Creek). After opening stores in Paramus and Hoboken earlier this year, they are thrilled to now open in the heart of downtown Westfield. Warby Parker was founded in 2010 with a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price while leading the way for socially conscious businesses. By circumventing traditional channels, designing glasses in-house, and engaging with customers directly, they're able to provide higher-quality, better-looking prescription eyewear starting at $95 (a fraction of the going price!). And for every pair of glasses or sunglasses purchased, a pair of glasses is distributed to someone in need. 908.505.0064.

Stained Glass Windows Restored at 44 Elm St.

Stained Glass Windows Restored at 44 Elm St.

Special thanks to Regina & Andrew Calcagno, property owners of 44 Elm Street (Westfield's flatiron building) and for investing in this beautiful gem! The stained glass windows were installed on October 10 by contractors George, Sal and Miguel. The 3rd floor stained glass panels were previously donated to the Westfield Historical Society by one of the prior building owners, the Rordens. After many years in the archives, they were removed, refurbished by Donna Slevin of Kick Glass Art Studio and placed back into the original frame by the Calcagno's. Donna also handcrafted the 2nd floor window at their request to replicate the design of the 1903 3rd floor original windows based on our historic photos. Downtown Westfield Corporation and our Design Committee are happy to be part of this restoration project. A true partnership all the way around! J. McLaughlin is open in the first floor retail space and the two apartments should be coming online soon. Stay tuned!

Halloween Festivities Now at the South Ave. Train Station Lot, October 28, 1:30-4pm

New Location: South Avenue Train Station Parking Lot

Trunk or Treat, Halloween Parade & Costume Contest in Downtown Westfield are now part of AddamsFest and will take place at a new location -- the South Avenue Train Station Parking Lot on Sunday, October 28, 1:30-4pm. In prior years, families came to downtown Westfield shops to trick or treat, culminating in a costume contest and parade on Quimby St. This year marks a major change to these events as they become an exciting part of AddamsFest!

Optimist Club's Annual Halloween Parade - 1:30 music begins, 2pm parade

The festivities begin with the Optimist Club's traditional Halloween Parade accompanied by music from the WHS marching band at the South side train station parking lot.  The parade is a great way for kids to show off their costumes.
